How Members 1st Federal Credit Union is Leading the Way with Member Appreciation

Byline: Steve Hemler, Chief Experience Officer, Members 1st Federal Credit Union

As financial institutions compete on technology and convenience, credit unions have a meaningful opportunity to stand apart by living out their values every day. At Members 1st Federal Credit Union, that is the heart behind “M1LES OF GRATITUDE,” this year’s Member Appreciation Month theme. Celebrated in April to coincide with the credit union’s founding anniversary on April 12, 1950, it is a chance to thank members, celebrate their loyalty and bring the credit union difference to life. That is especially meaningful for those of us who see every day how relationships are built, not through transactions alone, but through conversations, trust and kindness.

For credit unions, showing appreciation for members should be far more than a marketing effort. It should reflect purpose.

Bringing “M1LES OF GRATITUDE” to Life

This year’s theme takes a travel-inspired approach to member appreciation, reflecting the journeys’ Members 1st members are on and honoring the trust they place in the credit union along the way. Throughout the month, members can participate in giveaways, including ten $100 deposits for youth, business and personal accounts, as well as four grand prize beach vacations in partnership with iHeartRadio.

To make the experience feel personal and community-focused, Members 1st is also partnering with local businesses across its 12-county footprint. Branches will feature locally curated gift baskets that members can enter to win, along with “Treat Days” offering complimentary refreshments from neighborhood partners. Together, these efforts are intended to celebrate members in meaningful ways and recognize the relationships that continue to move the credit union forward.

Appreciation Beyond a Single Month

At credit unions, appreciation is not confined to a single campaign or moment on the calendar. It is part of the everyday commitment to serving member-owners with care and intention. At Members 1st, Member Appreciation Month simply brings that spirit into sharper focus, celebrating the relationships that drive the credit union’s mission and reaffirming that members are at the center of every decision.

That is what makes the credit union difference so enduring. Through personal connection, dependable service and a deep commitment to doing what is right for members, Members 1st continues to earn and strengthen trust every day.

Strengthening Communities and Connections

Member Appreciation Month also reflects the credit union’s broader purpose of serving local communities. Through in-branch experiences, service initiatives and partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits, Members 1st creates opportunities for members to connect with both the credit union and the communities around them. On the front-line, those moments of connection are powerful. They remind us that our role is about more than providing financial services. It is about having the opportunity to positively change lives in the people and communities we serve.

Looking ahead, Members 1st plans to continue building on these efforts with new programs and opportunities. In doing so, the credit union remains focused on the same goal that has guided it all along: putting members first and continuing to create experiences that feel personal, meaningful and rooted in care.
